About This Quote
This quote comes from the play "Measure for Measure," written by William Shakespeare. This play depicts a situation where a nobleman tried to get his servant to get him out of jail after the nobleman was accused of murdering his wife. The servant not only refused to get his employer out of jail but also tried to get him killed. While in prison, the nobleman's wife did her best to help him and get him released.
The nobleman did not want anything to do with his wife and even had her locked up. When she was released, she did everything in her power to try and keep him from getting killed. Without getting into much detail, the two got together in the end when the nobleman's wife confessed her love for him in an effort to save his life.
